Challenge Penticton Triathlon – 2014

Wow! What an exciting weekend we just had here in Penticton hosting our 1st annual Challenge Triathlon.
Penticton’s Jeff Symonds won the triathlon in a time of 8:29:57. Symonds won despite a crash on his bike!
Scott DeFilippis from the U.S.A. finished second and Jamie Whyte from New Zealand finished third.

On the women’s side, Carrie Lester from Australia was 1st (eighth overall) with a time of 9:27:26. Karen Thibodeau from Canmore, Alberta finished 2nd and Penticton’s Jenn Annett finished 3rd.

challenge 2013-a

This was the first Challenge race in North America. Now for those of you who don’t know. It is a Triathlon, just like Ironman, more commonly found in Europe, where the brand Ironman is more well known around here. Penticton hosted Ironman Canada for 30 years and made the switch to Challenge Triathlon after last years race.
The course is the same Ironman Course that all the Triathletes have come to love, we still have the popular underpants run, race expo, street dance, market, wine tour, plus many more fun events, throughout the week leading up to the race. It makes for a fabulous week long vacation for the racers, their families and friends.

If you are thinking about doing a Triathlon next year, I encourage you to give Challenge Penticton a try! Registration is now open for 2014.

Why stay at Casa Grande Inn:
We are so close to the start and finish line. We offer indoor bike storage. Free wifi and a complimentary breakfast, even at 4am on race day!
To reserve with us, just give us a call 250-276-3030

We hope to see you next year at the 2nd annual Challenge Penticton Triathlon.

Are you up for the CHALLENGE?

The First ever Challenge Triathlon Race to be held in North America, is happening this August in Penticton BC!
Unlike the Ironman race that has been hosted in Penticton for the past 30 years, the Challenge Race also has a relay opportunity. So 1, swimmer, 1 biker, 1 runner – teams of 3! I know many people who have talked about doing the ironman but struggle with one portion of the event. Now they can accept the relay challenge and be able to participate.
